MOVING LIVES

This series of short films made for The Immigrant Council of Ireland, highlights key issues that recent migrants to Ireland have faced. Stories of abusive relationships, living without legal status, family separation, people trafficking and everyday racism give a glimpse into the reality of many migrants’ lives. But behind each of these stories are also very universal emotions and aspirations. Making a livelihood, falling in love, having children, starting over;  anguish, hope, love and courage.

WHY THIS STORY?

Since the start of 21st century Ireland has gone from a country with virtually no immigration to a nation where an estimated 15% of the population now originate from another country. Such a fast demographic change in population has huge challenges for both those new arrivals and the country receiving them. We were asked to make this series by the late Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy to give a human voice to those negotiating those changes. Each film is narrated by the individual/s it features and depicts their everyday life in the country they now call home.
Funded by The Atlantic Philanthropies for The Immigrant Council of Ireland. Awarded 'Special Human Rights Jury Prize for Film’ from Irish Council for Civil Liberties.
